Struck from 1/2 oz of 99.99% pure silver and plated in gold, this Year of the Goat coin has been prepared exclusively for the Beijing International Coin Exposition held from 30 October to 1 November 2026.
According to Chinese tradition, the emperor ordered a great race between all the animals on Earth to determine who should occupy 12 positions in the lunar calendar. In pursuit of the seventh-placed horse, the gentle and determined goat travelled alongside the monkey and the rooster. As they approached the finish line, the trio worked together to cross a wide river. Leading the way, the goat reached the other side and crossed the line to claim eighth place.
The coin’s reverse depicts a mature goat, a young goat and a baby goat grazing peacefully amid a mountain range. The image embodies the auspicious phrase “Three Goats Bring Bliss” symbolising the end of winter and the arrival of spring, the renewal of all things, and prosperous new beginnings. Featured in the design is a plum blossom tree representing purity, resilience and hope. Included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘Goat’, the inscription ‘GOAT 2027’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The coin is housed in an illustrated collector card with a design replicating the coin artistry, with a fold-out leg for upright display.
The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint's 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990. Ownership of the mint was transferred to the Government of Western Australia in July of 1970. Under an agreement with the Commonwealth Treasury, they were empowered to mint and market gold, silver, and platinum as Australian legal tender to investors and collectors worldwide. Today, they are amongst the elite world mints whose pure gold, silver, and platinum items are trusted without question. Items such as the Australian Nugget, Silver Coin Series (Kangaroo, Kookaburra, Koala, and Platypus to name a few), as well as the Australian Lunar Gold and Silver Coin Series are extensively sought after by bullion investors worldwide.
